Guys if you are really looking for some great rock band, now here's one for you! They will surely shake your world! I've learned most of my guitar techniques from their guitar player John Petrucci and it's really helping me a lot.

He's absolutely right. If you think that the only good solos are the ones that are technically challenging, you clearly have a very superficial opinion on music.

Some of the best solos in music are not played at 200 bpm they don't cover everything from pinch harmonics to string skipping to sweeping. The best solos are emotional and melodic and if they can use shredding techniques in a musical way, more power to 'em.

I love dimebag and Petrucci equally, but Petrucci is much better technically than Dimebag, its really up to personal opinion on who writes better music though :)

Great musicians are humble Shredding is to show how fast and accurate you can play but in a solo of a song slow the fuck down shred only for about 10 to 20 seconds not overdoing it Otherwise it becomes funny like this video I like Petrucci too My favorites are Jeff Beck and Frank Zappa They play just as fast but their solos have more variations Metheny can be fast at times but more Jazz than rock Yngwei Malmstien is a good example of overdoing it except for a few of his melodic songs.
